As stated earlier, anyone can play this game. Scoring is easy, regardless of skill level. Each game set is supplied with rules and instructions. However, the rules are listed below to give you an idea of what to expect before your purchase arrives.
Backyard Football – RULES of the GAME:
- Place the chairs 40 feet apart (recommendation based on skill level). For you athletes, move out the chairs more to make the game more challenging.
- Teammates play on the same side. Play 1 on 1 up to 4 on 4. The number of players on each side is determined by you. For example, place one person on the left and 3 people on the right. You must maintain at least 1 person on each side.
- Winning team must score 54 points and must win by 2 points.
SCORING:
- Throw football into basket for 6 points. (Touchdown!)
- Hitting any part of the chair, including the uprights, is worth 3 points. (Completion)
- DEFENSE: When defensive player catches the football (must hit the chair first and cannot be deflected by defensive player), the player can take a knee for 3 points. Defensive player also has the option to return the football for points. Only 1 attempt allowed during the return.
AFTER SCORING A TOUCHDOWN:
- Kick the football from the tee. If the football goes through the uprights, Offensive player receives 1 point. If the football lands in the bucket, GAME OVER! This is an instant WIN for the kicking team.
- If the KICK is wide right or wide left, defensive player can return the ball for points.
HAIL MARY:
If your team is losing by more than 8 points, step back the number of points that you are behind. Then throw the football through the uprights. If the football lands in the bucket, you WIN!
